It's 42 degrees outside today and the snow still sits high on the ground in some places, but you would think it was 72 degrees instead. The birds are chirping. People are driving around town with their car windows down and music blaring. And I got the stroller out for the first time all winter!
Nolan and I had a ladies prayer group this morning, but I had thrown the stroller in the back of the van just in case we got out early enough to squeeze in a walk before lunch. The group ran later than I thought but Nolan had eaten a snack while we were there and didn't act hungry so I decided to stick with our plan to walk and drove to the trails instead of going home for lunch. The burdens and the hurts and the discouragements that were just shared by my friends and sisters in Christ were laying heavy on my heart and I just knew I needed time away from laundry piles and bills and the confines of my home. Time to just walk and breathe in the brisk air.
Wow! Amazing how just walking two or three miles can bring such clarity... such hope. And Nolan was pointing out the ducks (duck duck goose) and the creek beside us and the cars driving by. He had the biggest smile on his face as he was enjoying the outdoors with me after a very long cold winter. I think the walk was refreshing and hopeful to him as well.
From the look of the forecast, this will not be the last trek outdoors this week. And I praise the Lord for that! Who knows, the walk just might turn into a good hard run before the week's end...
