2nd Tiger Invite // Indoor Track Season

This past Saturday morning, the Tigers hosted their 2nd Open Invitational of the indoor season.

Noel left earlier in the morning to finish setting things up and getting them ready and then Melayna joined him a little later so she could get checked in for the 60 m hurdles and start her warm-ups.  Nolan and I arrived around 9:15 and waited until 9:30 when Melayna would run in the 2nd heat.

Noel was just pacing on the inside of the track and watching both Annie and Melayna go through some warm-up runs.

You cannot see Noel in the picture below, but he was giving Laynie a couple of suggestions.

And then all six lanes of the hurdles were put into place.

Nolan couldn't care less if his sister was running.  He kept himself entertained.

Here are a couple of screenshots from her race.

And then the video from her race.
She ran a new indoor PR with a time of 10:30 so she was happy with her run.

"Hi Mom!"

And then talking through the race (and celebrating) with her Dad.

She would finish in 6th place at the end of the day.

Two weeks ago, Melayna only ran the 60 hurdles and then she was finished for the day, but since this was an open meet and you could run anything that you wanted, she decided to enter the 200 meter just to see how she would do.  Melayna was a sprinter back in elementary school and ran the 100 and 200 all of the time, but as soon as she got to middle school, she switched to the hurdles and stopped running the sprint races.  We were excited to see how it would go for her.  Unfortunately, she didn't have any idea of what time to put in, so she was seeded all the way back in the fourth heat (out of 11).

About 1:30 in the afternoon, she was finally ready to run the 200.  As one heat would be in the starting blocks, the next heat would be lined up along the side waiting their turn.  She would lead the group into the blocks and start up in lane 7.

It was a close race but she managed to win her heat and finish with a respectable time of 28.95.  Definitely  not the fastest of the day, but not bad for someone who hasn't competed in the 200 since the 6th grade.

Track officially begins today and the HSR season will kick off with the first official meet in a week or so.  Then Melayna will see how her times hold up across the state.
