The big day has come (and gone) for Morgan as we dropped her off at Trine University on Friday, August 18th for her first official weekend in college.
We all had mixed feelings leading up to this day as we were obviously so proud of her and her accomplishments up to this point and this is what is suppose to happen -- grow up and leave for your own adventures!! So we were excited for her to experience her next adventure... but we all also know that her leaving will bring a lot of changes and leave a huge void in our own house as we make the adjustment. (I have already set too many plates at the table for our family dinner once or twice, which makes me sad.)

After the other three kiddos started back to school the week before, Morgan and I really got busy planning and preparing the last details that needed to fall into place before she headed off. She pulled out everything from her bedroom that she planned to bring and started making piles in our downstairs living area along with the few things that others had passed on to her. Then we went shopping to get the remaining items on her list and to fill in the gaps.
Piles...
... Piles...
...and more stacks and piles!
In the midst of the craziness, she said that Panda Express sounded really good so she took me there for lunch - and then the shopping resumed.
She didn't really need anything from Bath and Body, but she had gift cards to use, so why not?
And then on to Walmart.
I think we were done... for that day.
Her laptop had also come in the mail the week before, so she downloaded the programs that she knew she needed and personalized it so it was ready to go.
On Thursday we headed out again -- this time to Fort Wayne. Once again she had gift cards to use at Barnes and Noble, so we spent a little time in there before eating lunch together at Panera and finishing our afternoon at Costco.
In the midst of the shopping and packing, Morgan also made sure to spend plenty of time hanging out with her family and friends. She met up with several high school friends to say "good bye" as they all headed out and she also spent a lot of extra time with Nolan.
Here he is showing her how to use his new VR headset.
All together at Great America
Last Day as a lifeguard for the summer...
More time with Nolan.
... finally, on Thursday night before she left, Amslie, Luke, and Aaron all came over to play cards and to say good-bye. We all stayed up way too late but it was totally worth it.
On Thursday night we also packed up the van to make sure that it all fit and thankfully it did, with a little room to spare. LOL
Drop off was scheduled from 9-1 on Friday morning so we dropped Nolan off at his school at 9:00 a.m. and then we made the 90 minute drive up to campus and got her checked in at the University Student Center before driving to her dorm where we were greeted by about seven upper classmen who made really quick work of getting her stuff delivered to her room.
Morgan will be living in Honors Housing this first year and the rooms in that dorm are apartment style. She will share a bedroom with a roommate and then there is a second bedroom with two other girls in her apartment. They share one large bathroom, and a larger living area. The college provided a kitchen table and a couch / chairs and then the girls had to bring a microwave, refrigerator, and any storage and shelving that they thought they would need. By the time that Morgan arrived, the other three had already been there for a couple of hours and most of the apartment was already put together.
The four girls were going to go out over the weekend to pick up cleaning supplies and any other decorations they wanted for their shared living space.
It was pretty crowded and chaotic in there with four college students and two other sets of parents so Noel and I went for a walk around campus and let Morgan have some time to get her bed made and a few clothes put into the closet. She made a lot of progress in the 45 minutes that we were gone and then when we got back, we put together a couple of smaller things before taking pictures and giving hugs. I'm not quite sure how I made it out of there without any tears (lots and lots of prayers from friends and family, I guess), but we were all smiling when we said "good-bye" and she was ready to head out to her first orientation event, so it definitely helped to know that she would be busy for most of the day.

Noel and I headed out and drove a short while before stopping for a late lunch. Both of us were surprised at how easily the drop off seemed to go and how friendly the students all seemed to be. We also felt a lot of peace about dropping her off and driving away, so that is definitely an answer to prayer and a huge gift from God to our family.
'Must not have been too bad... we are both smiling.

P.S. EDITED TO ADD: It's now Monday afternoon. After a busy and eventful welcome weekend, she and her roommates are still working on the living area but here are pictures of her dorm room now that it is decorated and organized.
She's texted a couple of times about some of the events that she has attended and she was excited to head off to her classes on Monday morning. She said that she's doing really really good and that makes my heart glad!!
