I made a trip to our local ER yesterday.
It was my third emergency trip to the hospital in 12 months.
It was my second emergency trip to the hospital for one of my kids.
It was the first emergency trip to the hospital for my son.
The front of his head looks like this (black eye included).
The back of his head has two more spots just like it. (And the pictures don't do justice to the goose-egg knots that come with the scrapes) Poor guy!
Our church is hosting a garage sale and we've been helping to work it. Nolan did really great the first day as he stayed for over five hours and entertained himself. Just as we were cleaning up and getting ready to leave, he tried to open some doors to a set of cabinets that were being sold. Since they were empty inside and not attached to anything, they were unstable and he ended up pulling them down on top of him. He fell and hit the back of his head on the concrete gym floor and the cabinets fell on him hitting him on the front of the head and trapping him underneath. Thankfully there wasn't any blood, but he was crying harder than he normally does when he gets hurt and it instantly swelled up, giving his head a "funny" look. Off to the ER we went...
I did find out that when entering the ER (with a 20 minute wait) with a toddler and possible head trauma, you immediately move to the front of the line and get put into a room pretty quickly. They checked his vitals and his eyes and then we had a CT scan done. The little man cried in the CT scan and wouldn't lay still on his own. He was shaking uncontrollably in fear and starting to scream. It was terrible to watch -- so they eventually let me go right up to the table with one of those gowns on and I had to hold him down and in place (with the help of another lab tech) and then I sang to him and counted out loud and helped him say his ABC's...anything to keep his mind off of the fact that he was being restrained inside of this machine with red lights and spinning wheels.
Two hours later we were home with ibuprofen and ice packs and everything appears to be fine. He'll just be sore for a long while. Scary times for this mommy's heart, that is for sure!!
