Nolan-isms

Nolan:  "Mom, I want to taste God to see what he tastes like"
Me:  "You want to taste God?  Why?"
Nolan:  "Because my Kids' Club teacher said to "Taste and see that the Lord is good"

+++

Nolan:  "Satan lives inside volcanoes"
Morgan:  "No he doesn't.  Where did you hear that?"
Nolan:  "He does too.  He lives in volcanoes"
Morgan:  "No, he really doesn't"
Nolan:  "Well, maybe not yet, but when it's time, God is going to throw him into the lava"

+++

We were driving down the road the other day listening to a Christian music song on the radio.

Nolan:  "That song said God is with you.  Do you believe that God is with you?"
Me:  "Yes.  I do believe that, Nolan.  Do you?"
Nolan:  "How do you know that because I can't see him?"
After talking for a short time to him about how you can't see him but you can feel him and how God is with us all of the time watching over us, he says...

"I don't want God to be with me in the bathroom.  Sometimes I just need privacy"

++

Nolan blew me away the other night when he did this code breaker activity...

...and a word search all by himself.

Playing word games with Morgan while they were at the dentist the other day.

Just yesterday he was asking how a parachute worked and after we talked about that for a while he got "the look" on his face that tells me he's thinking of a "great" idea.  Minutes later he was scrounging around for our umbrella... LOL

Nolanism's

Nolan: “Are you my mom?”
Me: “Yes”
Nolan: “Okay. Just checking”.
(And then he walks away)

++++

And now he saw me eating these and said, “Did you get your sugar daddy at swimming last night?”
I ‘bout spit out my drink.

Christmas Wrap-Up

Whether it's Christmas four years ago, or just a few weeks ago... apparently some things never change!

That Boy...But WHY?

Nolan:  "Uh Mom... I might have drawed on my head...."
Me: "Uh, I see that.... but um.... what is it?  And why?"
Nolan:  "I was writing my name.... but I think I drawed it backwards...."

No big deal... just another morning in my house!!

He's At It Again!!

Earlier in the week I heard Nolan calling for me from the garage.  "Um, I need a little help here..."
This is how I found him...all 'hung up'.

++

Nolan: "Mom, I need to get an airplane so I can fly to California"
Me: "What are you going to do in California?"
Nolan: "You know, stuff grown-ups do."
Me: "And what things do grown-ups do in California?"
Nolan: "Make beef stroganoff and grill cheese"

Wow!  Noel and I must really live out an exciting "grown up" life around our house!

Never fear though... he's not going anywhere anytime soon as that conversation was quickly followed up by, "Never mind, what I really want is popcorn!"

This Boy... Our Latest Updates

This Boy...

This boy pulled the seatbelt all the way from the back of the van and then yelled, "Look Mom, I'm skiing!!" as he went side to side.

This Boy...

This boy went for his speech evaluation yesterday.  You might remember that earlier in the summer, I talked about Nolan taking speech therapy during the school year.  He quickly said, "No, I not need peach cass.  I talk just pine."  Any time it was brought up, he would continue to object so I stopped talking about it in front of him but continued to work with the school system to set up our necessary appointments and evaluations.

  Two weeks ago, a woman from the school system came over to our house to evaluate him to see what "special services" he may benefit from.  (It's all part of the process and just hoops that we have to jump through in order for him to get preschool speech services).  I knew he wouldn't want to cooperate if he knew that it was for speech so we told him that she was just coming over to play with him and that she wanted to see how smart he was.  After working with him for about 20 minutes, she confirmed that he was "exceptionally bright" and "in need of no other services except speech" and then she left.

Next step took place yesterday when we went to Melayna's elementary school for his evaluation with the speech teacher.  Again, I didn't want to tip him off in advance to the speech portion so I just told him that we were going to Laynie's school to meet one of the teachers and she would play games with him and things.  Unfortunately, he was a bit disappointed from the beginning because the last time we went to Laynie's school for games, it included a carnival and bounce houses.  Oops!  Well, we'd have none of that yesterday -- just a workbook with pictures.  Mrs Leuw sat him down in her classroom and then flipped through the pages one at a time asking him what picture was on each page.  She told him that she "wanted to see how smart he was" and started on page one.  He started out pretty enthusiastically with the first several, but as she continued to flip the pages he became more and more quiet with his answers.  Plus she stopped long enough after each picture to take notes and write things down.  He watched her and finally said, "Are you going to ask me about every single picture in this book 'cuz that's going to take forever!?"  She reassured him that she wouldn't but I don't think he believed her.  After a few more, (and she kept writing), he asked, "Why does everyone want to see how smart I am?"  He wasn't asking in a snotty way, I think he finally figured out that he was being evaluated and it was almost as if he wondered where he measured up - and I could tell that he wasn't comfortable all of the sudden, even though I was in the room.  He started looking around and shifting uncomfortably in his seat.  And when she asked him to start repeating sentences that she read from her book, he obeyed, but did it very hesitantly and I doubt she could really understand him.  It was like he just quit trying at that point.  :-(

She says that he definitely has problems with several sounds but each sound has a year of age when it should be mastered.  "F" should have come by the age of 3 or 4 and then many of the others will come before second grade.  He qualifies to receive help, but she admitted that at this point, she will only help him with the letter "f" and when he masters that, she'd be finished with him until he enters kindergarten and the teacher notices his problems.  Then they'd began working on the next sound that kindergartners should be ready for.  Hearing her say that tells me that maybe we'll just get work to do with him from home and not make him go through "peach cass" after all until he's older.

This Boy...

This boy was working on the letter "P" this week at home.  We talked about "Pounding" with hammers and "Painting Paper Plates".  We read books about "picnics" and "parachutes".  Then he painted several different plates by himself to look like animal faces.  This project took him two days.

The "after"...

I love doing life with "this boy".

Our Poor Cat

If you came by our house last week, you just may have seen our cat (who we call "Cow") running around our front porch with a post-it note stuck to her fur.  Poor thing!

Apparently my son decided that she needed a name tag in case she wanders off and gets lost.  "When people see the note Mommy, they will know where to bring her back to".

After all, who needs store tags when post-it notes are much cheaper?

That Night...

On Tuesday night I was suppose to run over to my neighbor's house and to take senior pictures of their son.  I was planning on leaving the kids at home since I was just two houses down, but Nolan wanted to come along.  So here I was, trying to act all professional and take his pictures and my son was zooming around their yard on a tricycle that he found and acting all neighborly.

What can I say?  Except that I should just enjoy it while it lasts because before I know it, I'll be taking my son's senior pictures and thinking back on that night with a laugh.

Silly Shenanigans

The other morning Nolan found his minion hat that had been packed away.  (I thought it was too small and wanted to save it).  He put it on and then tried to find his way around the house with his eyes covered.  (Because he was 'looking out through the goggles, Mom')  LOL

And then he only wanted to eat bananas for breakfast and lunch because he said that bananas are the only things that minions eat!!

Nolans activity for today? He filled up a few Easter eggs with candy and then went outside to hide them. Then He came back inside and told me that when I said "go", he would race back outside to find them. He was gone for quite awhile looking for these eggs and when I asked him why it took so long he said, "because I hid them REALLY good"!!

Breakfast for Two

Laynie went to school today while the older two girls went to volunteer at the local food pantry with their Grandma M.

This meant that Nolan and I had four hours together.  What were we to do?  Grabbing a donut and a special "orange juice" seemed like a great idea.

It wasn't all about food.  We also spent a lot of time at the library putting together puzzles and then we went home and had a jumping contest on the trampoline.  (He won and I'm absolutely sure it was because of the donut!!)  LOL  While we were laying on the trampoline and giggling together, Nolan said "It's a good day".

I sure love that boy!!

New Passenger

Nolan didn't want me to drive all by myself the other day.  He was afraid that since he couldn't go with me, I would be really lonely.

This was his solution.

Nolan-isms...That Boy!

Nolan is "charging" me tolls to go to various rooms in my own house today. He stood at the top of the stairs and charged me $2 to go down. Then he raced me to the bottom and charged another $2 to get past him again. The bathroom cost $5 but hey, sometimes you just have to pay the price!! 😁

That Boy...

Nolan certainly keeps me busy.

Last night he pulled an entire pitcher of grape kool-aid out of the refrigerator and dumped it all over the kitchen floor.  He must have been afraid for his life because he quickly covered his bottom and started crying.  "I'm sorry Mommy.  So sorry.... so sorry Mommy" over and over and over again.
I think we both ended up crying over that one...

Then, this morning he starts us off all laughing at him again.  He's fascinated by the t.v. show "America's Got Talent" right now.  Sometimes he'll stand in the living room and do a talent for us and then we have to pretend to be judges that give him "the golden buzzer".  The girls told him last night that they were tired of playing that with him and that he needed to forget about it.  'Guess he didn't forget about it since he woke up this morning insisting that the whole family call him "Simon" and he's walking around the house calling his sisters "Mel B" and "Heidi".  :-)

Oh that boy.  What am I going to do with him?

"Sleeping" Flowers

My darling boy found flowers in our front bed and brought them to me.

Nolan:  "'Deese fowers are fo you, Mommy cuz I wuv you."
Me:  "Oh, honey, thank you, but I think they are dead."
Nolan:  "No dey not, Mommy.  Dey are oney seeping."
